Expanding Our Propagation Capacity to Protect and Strengthen Seedling Growth
At Kerikeri Plant Production, propagation is at the heart of everything we do. With a wider range of species in production — 95% of them native NewZealand varieties — creating the right environment for healthy establishment is essential.
We are excited to introduce our new propagation area, purpose-built to give our seedlings the protection and growing conditions they need during their most vulnerable stages of development.
The new space has been carefully constructed to provide greater control over temperature, moisture, airflow, and shelter from harsh weather conditions. Young seedlings are highly sensitive to environmental stress, and even short periods of exposure to heavy rain, strong winds, frost, or excessive heat can impact growth and plant quality. By improving protection during these early stages, we can produce stronger, healthier plants with better consistency across all species.
Many native species require careful handling and specific conditions to germinate and establish successfully. Our upgraded propagation area allows us to better manage these requirements while increasing capacity and improving over all plant performance.
The development also supports our long-term commitment to growing high-quality native plants suited to restoration, revegetation, landscaping, and environmental projects throughout New Zealand. From coastal and inland species to landscaping and revegetation every seedling benefits from a more stable and protected start.
Investing in infrastructure like this ensures we can continue producing a diverse range of plants while maintaining the standards of quality and care our customers expect. It is another step forward in strengthening our production capability and supporting the future supply of native plants across the country.
